This past month has been quite the whirlwind. Yet, in this time, our Abba has showed me that He truly is a Good, Good Father; in the wonderful times and when things are tough.
At the beginning of January, I was able to go visit dear friends in Costa Rica for two weeks. Then, two weeks ago, my beloved Paw Paw finished his earthly race and went to be with the Lord. As I ponder all these things, I see the Lord’s grace and presence through it all and that He truly is our Good, Good Father.
As I was reunited, after a year in a half, with dear friends in Costa Rica – I said our Lord is a Good, Good Father.
As I met my host family’s little boy for the first time, once again – I declared our King is a Good, Good Father.
As I rode back from the beach, with dear families who have been such an encouragement to me, looking at the glorious mountains, and feeling the warm wind rush in the windows – I marveled at our Good, Good Father.
As I caught up with friends and listened to how the Lord has continued to grow them in Him and strengthens them for what they face each day – I praised our Good, Good Father.
As I played games, joked with, and laughed with dear friends – I was filled with joy because of our Good, Good Father.
As my family in Christ in Costa Rica blessed me as I follow the Lord to where He has called me in Nicaragua, and I was able to bless their continued ministry there – I experienced the deep presence of our Good, Good Father.
As my heart sank as I heard the news of my dear Paw Paw’s condition while in another country – I chose to place trust in our Good, Good Father.
As I had the honor to sit at my Grandpa’s bedside, in His last days and hours on this earth – I read about and sang about our Good, Good Father.
As I haven’t been able to do much fundraising in the craziness, yet our Provider continues to call people to commit to give to Him through supporting me in going to Nicaragua – I worship our Good, Good Father.
As my Grandpa, a true conductor of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, closed His eyes for the last time here and opened his eyes in the glory and arms of our Good, Good Father – I cried out to our Good, Good Father with sorrow, grief, joy, hope, and peace.
Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and of my beloved Paw Paw, Edgar Alms, is the faithful God and our Good, Good Father. As I go forward, there is one more dear saint in that great cloud of witnesses that reminds me of how our Good, Good Father sent His only son to go before us and secure our place with Him in glory someday. For through Jesus’ resurrection and provision for us, our God is the God of the living and not the dead.
As I am called closer to the heart of our Lord through suffering, my life becomes more deeply anchored in the hope of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This causes me to become all the more excited about continuing to share it with all those around me.
How have you seen God as your Good, Good Father? How does this spur you to share this hope and life with those around you? Can you see our God as a Good, Good Father in the good times and the challenging times? I urge you to ponder this with me and choose to have faith in our Good, Good Father.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10:10-11
“You’re a Good, Good Father
It’s who you are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am”
Chris Tomlin, Good, Good Father
